31% – Weight Loss

Same pose, four different time points

In January 2009 I decided to lose the extra weight I’d been carrying around since I was 8. It was my first ever dedicated effort to lose weight, or go on a diet. I joined Weight Watchers, which really worked for me. I was happy to count points and track everything I ate in a notebook. I attended weekly meetings where I was weighed in by someone else. I learned to cook and ate out much less. I also incorporated exercise and became a runner.

Over the course of 15 months, I steadily lost weight. By the time I reached my goal weight, I had lost 31% of my starting weight or 60 pounds.

I no longer adhere to the WW plan and haven’t been to a meeting in nearly a year, but still follow the lessons I learned. I have to keep eating healthy and getting regular exercise. I’ve kept most of the weight off save for about 5 lbs, which is just enough to make at least one pair of pants fit way too tight.

I blogged occasionally about my weight loss progress. All those posts can be found in the cambios (changes) category. For photos check out these sets at flickr:

I’d be happy to talk more about my experiences, but please note that I am not a medical professional nor a registered dietitian.
